Koh Ra (Remote Island) Adventure
with Surin Islands National Park trip
(based from Koh Ra Ecolodge)
CODE: TVL004
3 Days, with 2 different extensions of 1 Day each possible

Day 1 (Date): Arrive Kuraburi, Phang Nga province or Phuket airport and transfer to Koh Ra
Upon arrival to Kuraburi Pier (early to late afternoon). Meet your guide and transfer by long-tailed boat (30 min.) to Koh Ra Ecolodge. Have time for a brief tour of the facilities and introduction to the eco-friendly and sustainable features of the Ecolodge (organic garden, composting system, solar power) and the trail system. The Koh Ra Ecolodge was started as a model of sustainable ecotourism and accommodation. Their goal is to offer guests a meaningful nature experience while working to benefit the local ecology and communities of the area. Relax at your leisure in the beachside sala, go for a stroll on the beach and maybe see Crab-eating macaque monkeys hunting for oysters on the rocky point. Overnight to the soothing sounds of beach and jungle.

Day 2 (Date): snorkel trip to koh surin national park
After breakfast, board the Koh Ra Ecolodge’s own speedboat for a trip to Koh Surin National Park, the best snorkeling site in Thailand. The Koh Ra Ecolodge is the closest landfall to the Surin Islands so you’ll be able to maximize your time at this jewel of the Andaman Sea. See what vibrant reefs should really look like and learn about coral reef ecology from our specially trained guides who also work with Reef Check Thailand, a local non-profit marine conservation organization. The trip takes a little over an hour and we first visit the National Park visitor’s center at the beautiful main bay before snorkeling at least two sites. Have a Thai lunch onboard the boat to maximize your snorkeling time and return in the afternoon, back at the Ecolodge by 4:30pm. Diving is also an option for certified divers at an additional cost.

Snorkeling and Kayaking n turquoise waters

Option 1: full-day Guided Sea Kayak trip and snorkel
After breakfast, join our specially trained guides for a sea kayak exploration of Koh Ra, around to the outside west coast, a long string of deserted bays and beaches with secret lagoons. We will paddle about an hour and a half (or can be dropped off in the long-tailed boat for a one way paddle back) to a large deserted bay with a lagoon for a short nature walk. On the way back we’ll stop by our local coral reef to look for lionfish, sea anemones, and other fascinating creatures. We will tell you about our coral reef monitoring program in collaboration with Reef Check Thailand and how the tsunami affected the area’s reefs. Return back to the Ecolodge mid-afternoon for a rest and drink before dinner.

Koh Ra Island; Moken village

Option 2: half-day Guided jungle walk/hike and sea gypsy village tour
After breakfast, take a pleasant walk through evergreen forests, open savannah forest, past streams and mangroves to visit the local Sea Gypsy (Moken) village. The Ecolodge has a very friendly relationship with the village and they are happy to show us their village lifestyle, including the plants they use from the jungle. The Ecolodge contributes money for guides from their village and to a community fund used for projects such as drinking well improvement, herb garden, and chicken house that we help them complete with TVLunteers.
